Oxygen, water vapor, and other trace gases permeate the membrane fiber and are discharged through a permeate port. Nitrogen stays within the hollow fibers and flows through an outlet port.Balston PSA nitrogen generators produce up to 99.95% pure, compressed nitrogen at dewpoints to -40[degrees]F from nearly any compressed-air supply. The generators continually transform air into nitrogen at safe, regulated pressures without operator attention.PSA generators use a combination of filtration and PSA technologies to create nitrogen.Compressed air is prefiltered to remove all contaminants down to 0.1 micron. The gas separation process preferentially adsorbs oxygen over nitrogen using carbon-molecular sieve (CMS). At high pressures, the CMS has a greater affinity for oxygen, carbon dioxide, and water vapor than it does at low pressures. By raising and lowering pressure within the CMS bed, all contaminants are captured and released, leaving the CMS unchanged. This process lets nitrogen pass through. Depressurizing the CMS releases adsorbed oxygen and other contaminant gases to the atmosphere.

The use of permanent magnets instead of rotor windings makes the motor smaller and lighter than induction motors. Using magnetic-bearing technology, a 75-ton compressor weighs 265 lb--about one-fifth the weight of a conventional compressor.A variable-speed drive (VSD) is required for the motor to operate. The VSD varies the frequency between 300 and 800 Hz, which provides a compressor-speed range from 18,000 to 48,000 rpm. This avoids a gear set. The VSD is integrated into the compressor housing, avoiding long leads and allowing key electronic components to be refrigerant-cooled. The VSD also acts as a soft starter; as a result, the compressor has an extremely low startup in-rush current: less than 2 amps, compared with 500 to 600 amps for a traditional 75-ton, 460-v screw compressor with a cross-the-line starter.

Though light in weight, Airbor magnetic drill has a powerful 1.6-hp air motor and 1,600-lb magnetic holding strength. With its extra rack, stroke length is extended to 10 1/4 in.
